Part of my subject matter is people’s daily clothes and a comment on the monotonous shapes we encounter all over the world on a daily basis.
Everybody knows the regular shapes of clothes like T-shirts. The designer takes these shapes and changes them, redesigns them and fills them with new creative patterns. I don’t want to use patterns that have already been used for many years and forced a certain shape upon people, designers and fashion shops.
If someone asks “why are these T-Shirts circle-shaped?”, I say “why aren’t there any circle-shaped T-Shirts anywhere anyway?”
I want to do everything from scratch. Forget the shapes and patterns. I start out with a circle, then introduce new shapes and follow them up with unique patterns.
Hopefully my clothes are speaking for themselves and whatever they say to the viewer and wearer – it’s the right message, because there isn’t a wrong or a right message. Each person takes away something different from the clothes I make, and I’m happy with that.
